My research is at the intersection of social identity and cognitive development. The findings of this research aim to inform both psychological research and educational practice.
One line of research focuses on the social development of deaf children with cochlear implants. It examines improvements in the ability of children with implants to communicate and socialize with hearing peers, their relationships with hearing siblings, and the coping strategies that help deaf children adapt in peer contexts.
Another line of research focuses on culture and education. Specifically, it examines educational opportunities fostered by the increasingly diverse student bodies attending today’s schools and the intercultural development of students studying in diverse cultural locations.
